Undergraduate BREE student joins SFSE Lab for summer internship
May 01, 2023
On May 01, 2023, the SFSE Research group welcomed a new undergraduate student- Miss Marie-Anne
Dessureault to the team.
Miss Dessureault is currently an undergraduate student at the Department
of Bioresource Engineering, McGill University-Macdonald Campus.
Although she is in my first year of engineering training, research has been a component of my CEGEP and
undergraduate studies.
At CEGEP, she conducted an in-depth literature review on various topics around economics,
sociology, art interpretation in the 20th century, politics and history, resulting in high-quality reports.
For example, in her Psychology class in CEGEP, Miss Dessureault investigated the influence of the number of factors that influence
a defined decision made by an individual. In this, she designed and performed surveys to confirm the hypothesis
on CEGEP students, translating the results into technical reports.
At the undergraduate level, Miss Dessureault research
experience stems from designing and analyzing a bioprocess for plant-based food stock in Bioresource
Engineering Design 1 class. In this course, she worked with a team of four students to reuse food waste
from grocery stores and transform them into other stock. To achieve this, her team employed SuperPro Designer
V12 design, simulated and analyzed a bioprocess plant which utilized supermarket vegetable overflow
and transformed them into vegetable broth powder.
.
She also investigated the potential economic and energy savings of the proposed design against
the conventional treatment of leftover vegetables in supermarkets. The results of this research
were translated into a technical report.
She will be working on the Environmental-Nutriomics research space with support from Mr. Prince
Agyemang on DISH and on feed additives in the dairy industry along with other projects.
Miss Dessureault is passionate about sustainability, circular economy, and communication.
In her leisure time, she prefers cooking and creating art.
