October 2, 2023
Between October 2-5, 2023, PI-Kwofie and colleagues participated in a communication workshop
organized by the Danone Institute (North America) in Denver, Colorado.
This was part of the process of improving the visibility of the DISH project,
which was funded over 2 years by the Danone Institute.
On the first day of the workshop, the team presented background information on the DISH project,
its conceptualization, and the current application prototype.
The presentation also covered how the group was formed and the respective research focus of each team member.
The team participated in several communication workshops on sustainable food system initiatives on days
2 to 3 of the training program.
Here, the team members learned about different communication concepts
and best practices to increase the impact of the DISH project. The team was exposed to different components
of communication planning, such as stakeholder mapping, message framework, activation plan, and tools for
measuring the success of an executed project activity.
In other training sessions, the team was walked through different communication strategies,
such as building relationships with journalists and leveraging social media handles and multiple
local and university news channels to disseminate the research outputs.
The team was also tasked to design a communication framework, which was judged on day 4,
with the winner of the best framework receiving additional funding of $10,000 to support the ongoing project.
Unfortunately, the team did not win this award, but they had a great experience and picked up several key lessons
to drive the DISH project to achieve the desired change. You can visit our technologies page to learn more about the DISH project.
