Mr. Raphael Aidoo at the CSBE conference session in Alberta, Lethbridge.
July 23, 2019
After a year long investment of time and efforts, Raphael was finally ready to showcase his finding
findings on the prospects of Circular Bioeconomy in the Canadian Pulse Industry.
On the 27th July, 2023, his abstract was accepted for an oral presentation at the Canadian Society
for Bioengineering conference (2023), held at Lethbridge, Alberta.
To Raphael, this was an accomplishing experience, seeing the opportunity to present his findings to
a learned group of scientists, engineers, and industrial players as a challenging but worthy adventure.
He believes it has really sharpened his presentation skills and given him insights on how to align his
research for industrial and national impacts.
Raphael presented on Value Recovery from Pea Protein Co-Products – A Case Study for Single Cell Protein
Production from Pea Starch, a study that intended to design optimal upcycling solutions for transforming
often underutilized crude pea starch into high value single cell protein for food and feed applications.
The presentation delved into the modeling and sustainability assessment of a baseline and scenario upcycling designs,
highlighting substantial environmental and economic gains from such pathway, and directing attention to the utility
potentials of the single cell protein as an aquacultural feed replacement.
From his overall experience, Raphael expresses gratitude to the organizers of the CSBE Conference,
marking the whole adventure as an incredible experience.
His major take home was the undeniable fact that
Canada needed sustainable solutions for the growing agriculture and agrifood industry, and he emphasizes
how interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary collaborations was relayed as a striking force for activating
the benefits we could render as bioengineers.
It was all joy meeting old friends, professors, and new friends!!!
