The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) had its annual conference for the year 2023 at Omaha, Nebraska.

The Annual International Meeting (AIM) for this year, had a dual hosting venue, the CHI Health Centre/Hilton Omaha Hotel and it was held during July 9-12. Derrick got his abstract on “Eco-efficiency Assessment of Dry Fractionation of Peas with Different Pre-treatment Methods” accepted for the Food Processing Systems Session which was moderated as a Lightning Talk session where presenters deliver 3–5-minute presentations.

He attended the conference with Dr. Ebenezer Kwofie, head of the Sustainable Food Systems Engineering (SFSE) Lab. There was a warm welcoming and socializing session on the Sunday July 9, at the CHI Health Centre and the conference kicked off on Monday and run through to Wednesday, July 12.

He presented his work to an audience of food processing engineers, both faculty and students, which ensued an interesting academic consonance as his presentation highlighted an uprising research focus in food processing engineering, thus sustainable pulse protein extraction. During the period, he also attended the annual business meeting of the African Networking Group of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ANGASABE). This was held at the on the Tuesday, thus July 11 at 5:30 pm at the Hilton Omaha Hotel.

Key discussions that transpired included how to promote agricultural modernization and sustainability in Africa and also how to foster collaborations in research and education while supporting the professional development of members, both students and faculty. As part of the social activities, after the session, members went to an Indian restaurant nearby for dinner and socializing. The award/closing ceremony were held on July 12 at the CHI Health Centre Ballroom. One key development in 2023 AIM was the launching of a new logo and slogan: Engineering a Sustainable Future. This slogan refocuses the goal of ASABE in making sustainability a cardinal concept in all innovations, developments, community interventions and industrial operations.

Overall, the conference was an exciting experience. I met both old and new friends and we had a lot of great time together. and the highly intellectual and inspiring academic melange of industrial experts, renowned professors and highly motivated students from different facets of food and agriculture disciplines contributed in my networking skills and research discussions during the post-conference period have been very fruitful”.
