Industrial Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment

Under this research theme, we conduct life cycle sustainability assessments taking into account environmental, social, economic, and techno-efficiency assessments on product systems.

Our research activities under this theme include

  • Evaluate the magnitude and significance of the process-product life cycle and its associated environmental performance.
  • Identify hotspots for improvement through life cycle assessment.
  • Develop sustainability improvements scenarios and their respective environmental and economic implications.

On-going Projects

Techno-eco-environmental assessments

(a) Investigating the techno-eco environmental assessment of pea protein fractionation.

(b) Measuring the industrial eco-efficiency assessment of Hybrid Fractionation for pea protein and the processing of pork.

(c) Exploring the life cycle assessment of the production of biopesticides with key focus on (i) contribution on environmental impact categories (ii) Processing benchmark analysis (iii) Hotspot analysis.

Sustainability Assessment of feed additive production

(a) Investigating the environmental impact of commercial feed additive production systems.

(b) Investigating the environmental impact mitigation of using feed additives/supplements at the farm stage.

(c) Investigating the technoeconomic and environmental life cycle assessment of the commercial production of promising methane-emission reduction feed additives.

Social Life Cycle Assessment

(a) Investigating the social life cycle and animal welfare in poultry production systems.

(b) Conducting corperate-level social life cycle assessment and exploring opportunities to improve worker welfare and safety during production.

(c) Measuring the social life cycle assessment of feed additive production systems on key stakeholders within the value chain (with key focus on farm level use and production stage).

(d) Assessing social impacts and implications of transitioning to a circular bioeconomy.
